Charles “Chuck” Frederick Lucas
Charles “Chuck” Frederick Lucas, aged 71, of Coronado, California, passed away peacefully on January 24th, 2024. Born on June 26, 1952, in Winchester, Massachusetts, Chuck was a beloved husband, brother, and a respected member of the Coronado community.
Chuck was the son of Joseph T. Lucas, affectionately known as “Papa Joe,” and Louise. He grew up with his siblings, Joseph, Peter, Paul and his wife Debbie, Bobby, Mary and her husband Chuck Rosa, Eileen and her husband John Bunny, Danny, and Trisha and her husband John Hernandez.
On January 9, 1999, Chuck married the love of his life, Karen Lucas, and together they shared many beautiful years of companionship and love.
A proud Navy veteran, Chuck served his country with distinction, achieving the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. His dedication to his fellow veterans continued long after his service, as he became an active and influential member of the Coronado Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). His leadership as the Commander of the VFW for 24 years was marked by his unwavering commitment to supporting veterans and their families.
In addition to his service, Chuck was a vibrant member of the Coronado community. He was an enthusiastic member of the Island Beer Club, where he shared many joyful moments with friends and fellow beer aficionados. Chuck's voice and presence were a hallmark at Coronado's Memorial Day ceremonies, where he served as the master of ceremonies for 15 years, honoring those who served with dignity and respect. His role as Commander for the 4th of July parades was a testament to his patriotism and love for his country and community.
Chuck will be remembered for his generous spirit, leadership, and the profound impact he had on everyone he met. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the community he served so selflessly.
Chuck was also a loving grandfather, sharing a special bond with his granddaughter, Haley Oceguera, and four additional grandchildren. His unique relationship with each of them was a source of immense joy and pride in his life.
A memorial service will be held on January 27th at the Coronado VFW at 3:00. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coronado VFW in Chuck’s honor, to continue his legacy of supporting veterans.

Mr. Bret William Dattke, Senior Chief, USN (Ret), passed away peacefully on New Year’s Eve, 2014 in San Diego, CA.
Remembered eternally by his family, he is survived by his wife Sharonnetta R. (Shari) Dattke, mother Patsy (Dattke) Coon, Mother-in-law LaVerna Halterman, beloved dogs Mohawk (Mo-mo), Nat-man and Oreo. He is also survived by soul brothers Sal Garcia and Anthony Romanelli, brother-in-law Pete Code, Aunt Lois Hauck, Aunt and Uncle Fred and Victoria Alcorn and Nephews Richard Code and Aaron Alcorn

EDWIN J. "DOC" FRIESENEdwin J. "Doc" Friesen, Capt., USN
(Ret.) took his final flight on July 23, 2014 after a short unexpected
illness. Doc was born in Lake Charles,
LA in 1929 and lived the American Dream.
He grew up on a farm, joined the Navy in 1946, was married for 62 years
to his wife Luckey, and raised two children while serving 28 years in the Navy,
retiring as a Navy Captain.
